Each year, colour company Pantone selects a Colour of the Year, the choice is inspired by trends in society, culture, travel and more. This year the 2020 colour is classic blue, according to their website it is “a timeless and enduring blue that’s suggestive of the sky at dusk”.
“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confident that is expressed by PANTONE 19-4025 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on. Imbued with a deep resonance, Classic Blue provides an anchoring foundation. A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and often the flow of communication.”Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute
How to use Classic Blue in your home?
Pantone have created five unique color palettes featuring PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue to help you bring this year’s special shade into your designs. Each palette conveys a different mood, illustrating the versatility of Classic Blue, and is supported by three suggested color combinations.
Keep your eyes on Purist Blue and Baby Blue , these shades blend in perfect harmony with the darker hues. And if you are still in doubt, Pantone is here to reassure you with their predictions. “Browns are important across the gamut and are inspired by dried seaweed and driftwood,” says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. Besides the mentioned coastal-inspired hues, she forecasts that sand-like whites and cool greens will play an important role too.
